Charleston RiverDog starter Wilkins Arias and reliever Erick Abreu allowed just six Hickory Crawdad singles as the ‘Dads were shutout for the second time in three nights Saturday. The ‘Dads had just one hit thru six innings and fell 3-0 in front of 2,892 fans at LP Frans Stadium.

Arias (7-6) struck out seven in five frames and gave up just one hit, an infield single to Crawdad 1B Tony Mansolino with two outs in the second inning, to earn the win. He walked two and hit one before giving way to Abreu. The former starter pitched the final four frames to earn the save allowing five hits while striking out three.

Charleston got all of the offense it would need on a one out solo homer by 2B Tony Roth in the second inning. Roth scored the second RiverDog run against Crawdad starter Jared Hughes when he singled with two outs in the fourth, stole second, and came in on 3B JT LaFountain's base hit.

Hughes (3-2) allowed two runs on four hits in the loss. He walked two and struck out six before giving way to Dustin Craig.

Craig pitched a perfect sixth and scoreless seventh before allowing a two out rally in the eighth. RiverDog 1B Ben Jones was hit by a pitch, DH Marcos Vechionacci singled, and Roth singled home Jones to make it 3-0.

Hickory CF Andrew McCutchen was the only Crawdad with two hits in the game. The shutout marked the sixth time this season that the ‘Dads failed to score in a game

The ‘Dads open a four game series with Savannah on Sunday night at 6pm. Hickory right hander Brad Lincoln faces SandGnat southpaw John Lannan.
