Argos Kerry Joseph Named CFL Offensive Player of the Week
July 23, 2008 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Toronto Argonauts News Release
Mississauga - The Toronto Argonauts Football Club would like to congratulate reigning CFL Most Outstanding Player QB Kerry Joseph on being named CFL Offensive Player of the Week. This is the first time as an Argo, and 10th time in his career, that Joseph has earned the award.
Joseph put together one of the best single-game performances of the year in a thrilling 35-31 victory last week at Rogers Centre. Not only did he pass for a game-high 343 yards and a touchdown, the KJ rushed for a game-high 118 yards and scored a touchdown on the ground. Joseph commanded the offence throughout the game, including a methodical, game-winning 11-play, 109-yard drive that exhilarated the home crowd. On the final play of the drive, Joseph ran 13 yards and hurdled into the endzone with just 23 seconds remaining in the contest. He became the first Argonauts quarterback since Doug Flutie in 1997 to pass for more than 300 yards and rush for more than 100 yards in a single game.
The Argos would also like to applaud rookie receiver Tyler Scott who was named the Runner-Up CFL Canadian of the Week. The Windsor, Ontario native, who sat out of football last season after transferring from Saginaw Valley State to the University of Western Ontario, hauled in 6 passes for 89 yards in the Argos' victory against the Eskimos. Five of his catches were made on Toronto's final drive of the game and led to Kerry Joseph's game-winning touchdown.
The Toronto Argonauts are North America's oldest professional football club, celebrating their 135th anniversary in 2008.
