Toronto Argonauts News Release

Toronto - The Toronto Argonauts are hard at work preparing to face off against the Saskatchewan Roughriders in their home opener this Saturday at 1:00 p.m. at Rogers Centre presented by the Toronto Sun. After an impressive win at Hamilton in the 2009 season opener, Head Coach Bart Andrus and the Double Blue are implementing the game plan to take on former Argos assistant, now Saskatchewan Head Coach, Ken Miller and his Green Riders.

Come down early and take in the outdoor entertainment around the stadium beginning at 11:30 a.m. Some highlights include Bandaloni at Gate 3, a DJ, face painters, clowns and a Jones Soda/Kerry Joseph Photo Wall at Gate 5 and the band Hail Mary's at Gate 11 as well as interactive inflatables courtesy of YTV.

Pre-game, the Argos will honour three CFL favourites who passed away this off-season - Joe Krol, Grey Cup Garry, and Frank Morris. The Toronto Argonauts will further celebrate the legacy of All-Time Argos RB Joe Krol, one of the greatest players to ever grace a CFL field, by placing a decal on the back right side of their helmets in recognition of Krol who played from 1945-1953 as well as 1955 and captured 5 Grey Cups. The decal features the now retired #55 along with Joe's last name and a crown to signify the man that many affectionately called Joe "King" Krol.

Fans arriving early will also be able to catch The Space dance school performing pre-game, as well as watch Argos Access on the videoboard. The first 5000 Argos fans in the stadium will receive cardboard replica helmets for the returning Supporter's Salute. Jeff Madden, who plays Frankie Valli in Dancap's Jersey Boys production, will sing the anthem at the home opener.

Halftime will keep fans in their seats as the 2009 Argos Cheerleaders, presented by the Toronto Sun, will perform, as will the Generation A Jr. Cheerleaders and the Emily Carr Secondary School dance group. A special presentation will be made to Wes Bauer, son of Blue Bombers President and CEO Lyle Bauer, who has been riding his bicycle across the country to help raise money to support cancer research and the Never Alone Foundation. Dubbed "Chase the Cure," Bauer began his journey in May next to the Terry Fox Memorial in Victoria, B.C. and arrives in Toronto in time for the Argos home opener.

The funds raised from the 50/50 for the home opener are being donated to the Rotary SAS All-Stars Program, a partnership between Rotary and the Argos that will see 1000 teens go through a special Leadership Training Camp right at an Argos game.

Following the game, fans can come down onto the field after the final whistle blows for the popular See You On The Field autograph session. Supporters are invited to join Argos players and cheerleaders at the Official Post-Game Party at Jack Astor's, 144 Front Street West, in downtown Toronto.
