Argos Dorsey Signs With Redskins

February 4, 2009 - Canadian Football League (CFL)
Toronto Argonauts News Release

Mississauga - Toronto Argonauts RB/KR Dominique Dorsey has signed a contract with the Washington Redskins of the NFL. Dorsey became an Argo on July 23, 2007 and made a large impression with fans in his short time with the team.

Commented GM/VP, Football Operations, Adam Rita, "Congratulations to Dominique on this well-deserved opportunity. He is an amazing person and player who will truly be missed. We wish him the best of luck in chasing his dream. He is a hard player to replace but we always strive to find tomorrow's heroes for our fans and are confident we will bring new and exciting personnel to Toronto."

Dorsey was named CFL Outstanding Special Teams Player in 2008, and was named a unanimous choice for team Most Outstanding Player and Outstanding Special Teams Player, East Division Outstanding Special Teams Player, CFL All-Star at kick returner, East Division All-Star for the second-straight year at kick returner, and was named a 2008 CFLPA All-Star at kick returner. Dorsey was the most decorated player on the Argos roster in 2008. Despite missing five games due to injury, he ended the season as the CFL's all-purpose yards leader by nearly 150 yards. The 2007 and 2008 East Division Outstanding Special Teams Player accumulated at least 200 all-purpose yards in a game nine (9) times this season, twice going for more than 300 yards, scored four touchdowns, was named CFL Special Teams Player of the Week four times and CFL Special Teams Player of the Month twice (July & September). In 2008, Dorsey set a new Argos single-season kickoff yards record (1,257) and a new club single-game kickoff yards record (225).

Dominique Dorsey remarked, "First of all, I want to thank the Argonauts organization and its staff for giving me the opportunity to continue my dream to play football when no one else would. I had the most fun playing in the CFL these past two years with the Argos. I want to thank my teammates - I'm leaving some warriors who I know are going to contend for a Grey Cup this year. I can't forget the Argo fans as well for making it fun; playing in front of them was great. It was a tough decision to leave - I felt like I made a home for myself in Toronto and wanted to win a Grey Cup there badly. I showcased my best abilities in Toronto but needed to pursue this opportunity in Washington at this point in my career. Thank you all so much - I'll miss you guys."

Dorsey becomes the fourth Argonaut to get an opportunity in the NFL this off-season. Other Argos who are heading south include WR P.K. Sam (Buffalo Bills), CB Byron Parker (Philadelphia Eagles) and OT Cliff Washburn (Houston Texans).
