Toronto Argonauts News Release
Mississauga - The Toronto Argonauts Football Club is pleased to announce that Oakville native Andrew Garven will join the coaching staff as Offensive Assistant for the 2007 season.
Garven joins the Argonauts after spending four seasons with the Montreal Alouettes and will join Offensive Coordinator Steve Buratto and Offensive Assistant Coach Bill Diedrick as they take over the Argonauts' offence.
Commented Buratto, "Andrew is a young man with experience in this league on both sides of the ball with the Alouettes. He will primarily work with the running backs and assist us with game preparations. We look forward to him joining us - I know he will be a great asset."
A former member of the McGill Redmen, Garven began his professional career with the Alouettes football operations and coaching staff in 2003 before moving on to work specifically with the Als' linebacking corps in 2005. Last season, Garven was the Assistant Coach - Offence for the Als, a similar role to the one he will fill for the Double Blue. Before heading to McGill for university, Garven played in the Burlington Minor Football System in 1997 and 1998.
Garven remarked, "This is somewhat of a homecoming for me. The Argos were my team as a kid growing up and it is strange how things come full circle like this. I remember the last time I was at Erindale was in 1998 as a player in one of Michael 'Pinball' Clemons' high school camps. It is also a great opportunity for me to stay closer to my family and friends."
The Toronto Argonauts are North America's oldest professional football club, celebrating their 134th anniversary in 2007. As Toronto's #1 community team through player involvement, community programs and The Argos Foundation - Stop The Violence, the Toronto Argonauts, a member of the Canadian Football League (CFL), have 15 Grey Cup championships to their credit and are hosting the 2007 Grey Cup game, the first Grey Cup in Toronto in 15 years.
