Toronto Argonauts News Release
First recruited to play at TCU as a running back, Ryan Christian converted to receiver as a junior then moved there fulltime as a senior in 2009. In his final year, he finished fourth on the team with 24 catches.
At 5-feet 5-inches and 170-pounds, Jerome Hewitt plays much bigger than his size. The Texas-native played four seasons at Southeastern Oklahoma State where he was a two-time conference all-star. As a senior, he scored a combined five kick return touchdowns.
Charles Owens was a speedy and reliable kick returner and receiver while at Eastern Illinois. Since graduating in 2006, he's played in a variety of professional and semi-professional leagues around the continent.
Derek Stanley holds the distinction of being the only player his school's history, University of Wisconsin - Whitewater, to be drafted into the NFL. The St. Louis Rams made him their seventh round pick in 2007. He went on to play in 15 games between 2007 and 2009. Stanley still holds his school's record for receiving yards and is second with 130 catches.
Christian, Hewitt, Owens and Stanley will take to the field on June 2 when Rookie Camp begins.
The Argonauts also announced today that non-import WR Tyler Scott, and imports DE Claude Harriott, DB/LB Stewart Franks and DB Reggie Sullivan have been released. Harriott is undergoing a scope on his knee and will not be healed for the start of training camp.
The Toronto Argonauts are North America's oldest professional football club, celebrating their 137th anniversary in 2010.
