Utica Comets News Release
Utica, NY - The Utica Comets defeated the Wilkes-Barre/Scranton Penguins by a score of 2-1 on Friday night at the Utica Memorial Auditorium.
Jordan Subban drew first blood at the 10:25 mark of the first period with a blistering wrist shot. Subban's 13th of the year was assisted by Mike Zalewski and Pascal Pelletier as the Comets took a 1-0 lead into the first intermission.
Darren Archibald made it 2-0 halfway through the second period, splitting two defenders and deking Tristan Jarry for his 17th goal of the year. Michael Carcone picked up the assist as the Comets led 2-0 after 40 minutes.
Tom Kostopoulos scored his 19th of the year with 11:10 to go in the third period on the power play, tipping a shot from Dominik Simon. The Comets, led by goaltender Thatcher Demko, withstood the Penguins late flurry to secure the win.
The Comets power play was scoreless in five attempts, while the penalty kill surrendered one goal in six attempts. Demko stopped 27 shots to improve his record to 10-11-4. Jarry made 23 saves and his record falls to 22-11-1.
The Comets are back in action tomorrow night as they hit the road to take on the Binghamton Senators. Puck drops at the Floyd L. Maines Veteran's Memorial Arena at 7:05 p.m. The game can be heard on 94.9 KROCK and viewed on AHL Live.
