AquaSox Unable to Stop Canadians in 12-6 Loss

EVERETT, Wash.- The Everett AquaSox (37-35) out hit the Vancouver Canadians (34-38) but were unable to stop their offense as they dropped game two of the three game set12-6 Wednesday night.

The AquaSox got on the board first when Mario Martinez hit a solo homer with two outs in the top of the first to give Everett a 1-0 lead.

The Canadians answered in the top of the second with two solo homers of their own. Ryan Ortiz led off the inning with a long ball, before Ryne Jernigan followed with a two-out home run to give Vancouver a 2-1 lead.

Vancouver extended the lead in the top of the third. Tyreace House hit a one-out single before Michael Gilmartin walked. Myrio Richard came up next and singled to load the bases. Ortiz drove in his second run of the game when he grounded out to make the score 3-1.

The Canadians blew the game open in the top of the fourth. Jernigan lined a single down the third base line with one out before Jose Cristomo reached first on an error by Ben Billingsley. Wilfredo Sosa was then hit by a Luke Burnett fastball to load the bases. House drove in Jernigan and Cristomo with a single, while Sosa scored when the relay throw from centerfield got away from the catcher Trevor Coleman - House went to third on the play. Burnett then walked Richard before Ortiz reached first and House scored on an error by Martinez. Max Stassi continued to pour it on as he hit a double deep to center field to score Richard and Ortiz and extend the lead to 9-1.

Already with a nine run lead, Vancouver tacked on another run in the top of the sixth on a Gilmartin solo homer to make the score 10-1.

Everett got two runs back in the bottom of the sixth. With two outs, Jose Rivero doubled and Welington Dotel followed with a single. Ben Billingsley loaded the bases with a walk. Coleman picked up two RBI as he drove in Rivero and Dotel with a single to cut into the lead at 10-3.

Vancouver continued to add insurance runs as Anthony Aliotti scored on a Cristomo single to extend the lead to 11-3.

The AquaSox matched the Canadians' seventh inning run with a run of their own in the bottom half of the inning. Nick Franklin led off with a walk before Matt Cerione doubled. Franklin came in to score on a Martinez ground out to make the score 11-4.

The Canadians added another run in the ninth when Sosa scored on a wild pitch to make the score 12-4.

The AquaSox rallied in the ninth scoring two runs, before eventually dropping the game 12-6.

The AquaSox will play their final home game of the 2009 season tomorrow at 7:05. Jon Hesketh will get the start for the Frogs. Hesketh will be opposed by Ricardo Penalba.
