Spokane Indians News Release
SPOKANE, WA - The weather at Avista Stadium wasn't the only thing that was sloppy tonight as the Everett AquaSox (4-4) knocked off the Spokane Indians (4-4) to take game three of the five game series, ending the Indians win streak at three games. A soggy crowd of 3,614 was on hand to see Everett starter Rafael Soriano, who is down from the Seattle Mariners rehabbing from off-season Tommy John surgery. Soriano pitched two innings, striking out four of the seven batters he faced. Everett scored a pair of runs in the 1st inning, and followed them up with another pair in the 3rd inning off of Indians starter Juan Carlos Garcia (0-2). Reliever Jarrad Burcie was touched up for four runs over the next three innings, only two of which were earned as the Indians committed three errors on the night. The Indians attempted to make a comeback off of Eric Carter (2-0), but were limited to three runs on just six hits. Six different Spokane batters each recorded a lone base hit, with Steve Murphy and John Mayberry, Jr. providing the fireworks with back-to-back homeruns in the 6th inning. Murphy's homerun was a towering blast to deep left center field, while Mayberry launched a line-drive rocket out to straight away left field.
Everett second baseman Luis Valbuena continued his hot hitting, going 3-for-4 on the night, and is now hitting .387 on the season. Valbuena, who started the 2005 season with the AAA Tacoma Rainiers, is 7-for-13 in the first three games of the series.
Tomorrow night will be the second of six, count âem six, Fireworks Nights this season as The Black Book from Hagadone Directories, KHQ TV and 103.1 KCDA light up the skies after the game.
