Boise Hawks News Release
EVERETT, Wash. - Mike Zunino went 3-for-4 with five RBI - including the go-ahead RBI double in the sixth inning, lifting the Everett Aquasox past the Boise Hawks, 6-3, before 2,222 fans at Everett Memorial Stadium.
The Seattle Mariners first-round pick added a long two-run home run in the eighth inning for a pair of key insurance runs, as the Aquasox ended Boise's win streak at three.
The Hawks jumped out to a 1-0 lead in the second, as Dan Vogelbach hit the first pitch of the inning into the net above the right field scoreboard for his third homer of the season. Zunino tied the game for Everett in the third, lining a two-out RBI single to right.
Boise would regain the lead in the fifth, as Izaac Garsez was hit by a pitch with two outs and Gioskar Amaya followed with an RBI triple to give the Hawks a 2-1 lead. Everett would take the lead for good in the sixth, as with runners at first and second, Zunino, popped a ball into shallow right-center, just out of the reach of charging centerfielder Trey Martin, scoring both runners. Taylor Ard followed with an RBI double to make it 4-2.
Boise would claw within 4-3 in the eighth on a Willson Contreras RBI groundout, but Zunino's homer put the game away.
Rusty Shellhorn got the win for the Aquasox, tossing six innings of two-run, five-hit ball, fanning six. Dominic Leone got the final nine outs for his third save. Ketel Marte went 3-for-4 in the victory, part of a 16-hit attack for Everett.
Amaya and Garsez each had two hits for the Hawks, with Mike Heesch taking the loss, allowing three runs on five hits in two innings of relief.
Game 3 of the series is tomorrow night at 8:05 p.m. (MT), with Jose Arias meeting Victor Sanchez.
