Everett AquaSox News Release

EVERETT, Wash. - The AquaSox compiled 16 hits in a 6-3 win over the Boise Hawks Tuesday night at Everett Memorial Stadium. Six Frogs recorded multi-hit games, including a five-RBI night from Mike Zunino.

Zunino provided a couple of insurance runs in the eighth when he pulled a two-run homer to left field, giving the Sox a 6-3 advantage going into the top of the ninth. The home run was Zunino's eighth of the year, tying teammate Patrick Kivlehan for the most in the Northwest League.

Sox starter Rusty Shellhorn (2-2, 3.38 ERA) tossed six strong innings to earn the win. The Liberty Lake, Wash., native allowed just two runs and recorded six strikeouts in his fifth start with Everett.

One of the runs against Shellhorn came via the longball in the top of the second inning. First baseman Daniel Vogelbach led off the inning by sending the first pitch he saw over the scoreboard in right-center field, giving Boise an early 1-0 lead.

The Frogs tied the game in the bottom of the third on an opposite-field line drive from Zunino. Shortstop Ketel Marte, who returned to the lineup after missing the previous three games with a sore shoulder, scored from second base on the play.

The Sox took their first lead of the game in sixth inning when they added three runs to go up 4-2. Zunino hit a soft fly ball up the middle that dropped in front of the center fielder to plate Jamodrick McGruder and Brock Hebert. First baseman Taylor Ard followed with a double of his own to plate Zunino for the third run of the inning. The double by Ard extended his hitting streak to 13 games.

The AquaSox and Hawks go again Wednesday night for the third game of the fifth-game series. Right-hander Victor Sanchez (5-1, 3.56 ERA) will be on the bump for the Frogs, and will be opposed by right-hander Jose Arias (2-2, 3.43 ERA) of Boise.
