Wenatchee AppleSox News Release

Wenatchee, WA - The AppleSox are homebound for six straight games. The home 9 hit the road in first place and continued to solidify their position after a sweep of the Kitsap BlueJackets (July 5-7). However, the AppleSox were bounced from the top of the division standings after suffering a 3-game sweep at the hands of the Corvallis Knights. Wenatchee is now in 2nd place, and a game and a half back of Walla Walla in the North.

The AppleSox will kick off this home series July 13th with the Medford Rogues. In late June the expansion Rogues took 2 of 3 from the AppleSox in Medford. The AppleSox won game 3 of that series launching them on a streak in which Wenatchee won 9 of the next 10games. Medford now sits in 5th place in the South after losing 6 of their last 10 games. Saturday and Monday's games will start at 7:05, and Sunday first pitch will be at 6:05.

After the AppleSox wrap up their series with the Rogues, the Kelowna Falcons will come to town for 3 games July 16-18. First pitch each night will be at 7:05. Kelowna has held down last place in the North since opening day, and are now 10 games out of first place. This will be the first meeting between the AppleSox and the Falcons this season. Wenatchee's Brock Slavin (Gonzaga) played last season in Kelowna and set the league record for sacrifice bunts in a single season with 13.

History in The Making Making

Barr Poised to be Doubles King

Wenatchee's Ryan Barr (Portland) is on the verge of AppleSox history. Barr has slammed 13 doubles this season which is 1 shy of a team record set by Zack Mandelblatt in 2007. With plenty of games left to be played Barr could challenge for the league record of 18 set by Tyler Christian of Bend in 2011.

Kane Inked by Marlins

Wenatchee Closer to Begin Professional Career

Tyler Kane (Washington) has signed with the Miami Marlins. Kane was a 38th round pick of the Miami Marlins in this year's MLB draft. Tyler Kane was a returner from last year's AppleSox roster and has served as the closer for Wenatchee this season. Kane has appeared in 8 games with the AppleSox this season compiling 8 innings of work. During that span Kane has a 0.00ERA while giving up just 3 hits, 3 walks, and striking out 11.

"It's probably one of the happiest moments of my life. It's what I've been working for since I was five years old. You know, it's a dream come true, and I am excited to get going with them (Miami) as soon as I can," said Kane on being drafted by the Marlins.

Kane will most likely start out in rookie ball and continue to try and elevate himself through the multitude of layers that is professional baseball. The Wenatchee AppleSox wish Tyler the best of luck on his way to the big leagues.
