Medford Rogues News Release
MEDFORD, OR - After a wild 7-5 Rogues win on Wednesday, a pitcher's duel broke out in game two of Medford's three-game series in Bend as the Elks took a 3-1 win home to even the series at one.
The Rogues pushed a run across in the fourth as 3B Corey Wynant hit a sacrifice fly to score 2B Parker Miles from third base. Miles continued his hot hitting in the series, following a 4-5 Wednesday performance with a 2-4 night, raising his average from .200 to .271 in two games. SS Joe Chavez also had two hits for Medford and accounted for four of the Rogues' seven hits on the night.
The Elks scored twice in the sixth on a groundout and single to make it 2-1, then pushed across another run in the eighth to extend the Bend lead to 3-1.
Rogues starter Justin Jacome (1-1), despite taking the loss, continued his masterful season since arriving in Medford for his first start on June 25. In three games the 6'6", 195 freshman from UC Santa Barbara has pitched 20 2/3 innings, allowing only two earned runs and striking out 20 while walking none on the season. For Bend, Eric Melbostead moved to 2-0 on the year and Tanner Ring picked up his fifth save.
The Rogues finish the three-game set in Bend on Friday night before heading to Wenatchee to play the WCL defending champion AppleSox. Medford took two of three in the June 24-26 series between the two in Medford.
