Bend Elks News Release

After falling on Wednesday, the Bend Elks responded on Thursday with quality pitching, solid defense, and timely hitting to force a series rubber match with the Medford Rogues on Friday, defeating Medford 3-1.

For the Bend Elks, the pitching staff put together a solid game, lead by starter Garrett Anderson. Anderson, from Seattle University, got his first start of the summer and put together a quality outing for Bend, giving up 1 run on 5 hits while striking out three, earning the no-decision. He was followed in the ballgame by Eric Melbostad, who earned the win for Bend in relief, pitching three scoreless innings, surrendering only one hit while striking out 4.

Melbostad (2-0), David Murillo, and Tanner Ring pitched the final 5 innings of the game for the Elks to keep them in it as they trailed 1-0 heading to the bottom of the 6th before the Elks finally broke through against left handed pitcher Justin Jacome, who had pitched 13 scoreless innings of baseball against the Bend Elks over 2 starts before the Elks came through in the 6th inning. The 6th started as Bend natives Justin Erlandson and Zach Close singled to kick off the inning, and were followed by Jerren Larimer, who dropped down a bunt to move the runners to 2nd and 3rd with one away. Derek Dixon then drove in a run on an RBI groundout, his West Coast League leading 26th RBI of the summer, and Tyler Servais followed with an RBI single of his own, as Bend took a 2-1 lead through 6 innings.

The Elks added an insurance run in the bottom of the 8th as it would be Zach Close coming around to score for the 2nd time on the night on the 2 out RBI single from Cullen O'Dwyer, and Tanner Ring pitched a scoreless 9th to earn his 5th save of the summer.

The Bend Elks and the Medford Rogues will play the rubber match of the 3 game series on Friday on Free Cap Night, presented by ESPN and Bend Broadband, the first 1,000 fans through the gates on Friday will receive a free Bend Elks baseball hat, first pitch scheduled for 6:35 p.m.
