AppleSox Named Region's Top Sports Story in 2010

he AppleSox eleventh season was one for the record books. The year was capped off by the Wenatchee World selecting the AppleSox as the region's top sports story in 2010.
In addition to capturing the WCL Championship for the second straight season, there were many other accomplishments on and off the field that made 2010 such a special year for the AppleSox.
Other highlights include:
- 42,774 fans attended an AppleSox game at Paul Thomas Sr. Field in 2010.
- The AppleSox finished the season ranked as the #17 summer collegiate baseball team in the country by Perfect Game CrossChecker. It was the second straight summer that the AppleSox earned a top 30 ranking at the end of the season after being ranked #25 in 2009.
- AppleSox head coach Ed Knaggs was named WCL Coach of the Year for the second straight season.
- A league high six AppleSox players were named to the All-WCL First Team. Collin Bennett, Clayton Eslick, Eric Peterson, Trevor Brown, Marco Gonzales, and Jeff Ames were voted on to the All-WCL First Team.
- Baseball America selected three AppleSox players to the West Coast League Top 10 Prospect List. Jeff Ames, Marco Gonzales, and Collin Bennett were selected from Wenatchee as top prospects.
- Cole Gillespie made his MLB debut for the Arizona Diamondbacks. The Oregon State University graduate who spent the 2004 summer in Wenatchee became the third former AppleSox player to reach the major leagues.
- Tom Milone was named the Washington Nationals Minor League Pitcher of the Year. The former AppleSox pitcher who helped Wenatchee capture the 2006 WCL Championship continued his impressive rise through the Nationals organization.
- The Wenatchee City Council and Mayor Dennis Johnson honored the AppleSox in May. AppleSox owners Jim Corcoran and Ken Osborne were on hand to receive a proclamation from the council.
- 1,353 fans attended Wenatchee's first Division I baseball game between WSU and Seattle University hosted by the AppleSox on April 13th. WSU beat SU 5-3 at Paul Thomas Sr. Field as former AppleSox pitcher Paris Shewey picked up the victory for the Cougars.
