Oshawa Generals News Release

Generals played the way they know how tonight after putting up 56 shots on goal and taking the 4-0 win over the Petes in game four of round one. With goals by Dal Colle, Latour, Vande Sompel and Mistele, the Gens bounced back after their 3-1 loss on Tuesday with a win in Peterborough tonight. Kenny Appleby recorded his first shutout of the season, stopping a total of 27 shots. The boys will be back at the GM Centre tomorrow night for game five - a possible elimination game. With tonight's win, the Gens now lead the series 3-1.

The Generals came out on fire from the first drop of the puck. The Gens put the first six shots on Matthew Mancina with complete domination in the Petes zone early on. Michael McCarron tried a fancy move through the legs on a three on one but Mancina prevented the chance. With some solid scoring opportunities on goal, the Gens were able to beat Mancina as Michael Dal Colle tipped in a point shot by Mitchel Vande Sompel to capture his first of the playoffs. Hunter Smith was also credited an assist which put the Gens up 1-0 7:57 into the first. The rivalry continued with aggressive playing from both sides of the ice. Bradley Latour picked up his second goal of the playoffs and Smith recorded his second assist of the game as the Gens lead 2-0 just 13:39 into the game. The only penalty of the period went to Will Petschenig for boarding, which put the Gens on the penalty kill for the first but not the last time of the night. This was no problem for the Gens as they concluded the period 2-0, with 27 shots on goal compared to just 11 for the Petes.

After a solid first period the Gens needed to keep the momentum as they headed into the second period of play. The second was action packed with another two goals, five penalties and one game misconduct. Aiden Wallace received two for slashing, putting the Petes on the power play less than three minutes in. After fighting off the penalty kill, Wallace went right back into the box for holding, but this time Peterborough's Logan DeNoble also sat for roughing. This created some four on four hockey, but not for long as Josh MacDonald was sent to the box for crosschecking less than 40 seconds later. With the Gens on the man advantage, Vande Sompel tallied his second goal of the playoffs as he beat Mancina with a point shot. Cassels received his sixth assist of the playoffs on that one, and Dal Cole snagged his second point of the game to put the Gens up 3-0 9:20 into the second. A rough hit by Cameron Lizotte on Latour kept him down on the ice, and resulted in a five-minute penalty and a game misconduct for Lizotte. With 1:20 to go in the second, the Peterborough Memorial Centre was quiet as the Gens held their 3-0 lead. While on the power play for just 24 seconds, Matt Mistele managed to slide one past Mancina with only 33 seconds left in the second. That put the Gens up 4-0 after 40 minutes of play, with 40 shots on goal.

The third period remained quieter than the previous two with no goals for either side. With the Gens up 4-0 there was no room to stop the pressure. Smith got sent to the box for interference just 1:15 into the third. On the penalty kill, Tobias Lindberg was close to making it a five-goal lead but the goalpost was on Mancina's side. The Petes thought they snapped the shutout for Appleby but officials called off the goal since it went by Appleby after the whistle. Holding onto their 4-0 lead, Josh Brown got sent to the box for high sticking 17:53 into the third. The Gens kept the pressure on and the puck in their opponents end for the remainder of the penalty kill. The boys were able to hang onto their 4-0 lead and take a 3-1 series lead.

With their win tonight, the Gens will be back on home turf for a 7:35p.m. puck drop tomorrow night. Prior to the game, we will have our Ontario Motor Sales pre-game tailgate, which will include fun for the whole family!
