
Spirit End Series With 5-2 Loss to Greyhounds

The Saginaw Spirit welcomed the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds for Game 4 of the playoff series for some Thursday night hockey at the Dow Event Center. The Greyhounds headed back to Sault Ste. Marie with a 5-2 victory over the Saginaw Spirit, finishing the series off in game four at the Dow Event Center.
The Saginaw Spirit turned in a strong, fast-paced first period against the Greyhounds, finishing the first with a 2-0 lead over the visiting team. Saginaw's starting goaltender Evan Cormier pitched a shutout first period, with the Greyhounds putting a total of 9 shots on the Spirit net. Artem Artemov opened the game's scoring on his 2nd of the playoffs at 7:54 of the first. Troy Henley and Jake Ringuette assisted the goal that gave the Spirit a 1-0 lead over the Greyhounds. Vladislav Kodola followed suit of Artemov and enhanced the Spirit lead to 2-0 after he deked Sault Ste. Marie's goaltender Brandon Halverson and fired home a backhand at 16:36 of the period, recording his 1st of the post season. Greg Di Tomaso and Keaton Middleton were credited with the assists on the play. Shots during the first period favored the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds 9-6.
The Greyhounds sliced the Spirit lead in half during the second period, after Michael Bunting slipped the puck past Evan Cormier and made it a 2-1 game with the Spirit still holding onto the one-goal lead. Anthony DeAngelo and Brandon Halverson assisted the play. The Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds outshot the Saginaw Spirit in the second period 18-9.
The Saginaw Spirit could not hold on to their one-goal lead in the third period, with the Greyhounds taking a three-goal advantage before the final buzzer sounded. Sault Ste. Marie tied the game three minutes into the third period when Tim Gettinger picked up a pass from Anthony DeAngelo and Medric Mercier and netted the goal that tied the game 2-2. Nick Ritchie continued the scoring for the Greyhounds when he put home a power play goal that gave Sault Ste. Marie a one-goal lead over the Spirit at the 10:47 mark. Anthony DeAngelo and Sergey Tolchinsky were credited with the assists on the play. Sergey Tolchinsky and Darnell Nurse each recorded a goal before the final buzzer, allowing the Sault Ste. Marie Greyhounds to take a 5-2 victory over the Saginaw Spirit. Final shots on net favored the Greyhounds 40-25.
