Belleville Bulls News Release
BELLEVILLE, ON - The last few weeks have been difficult ones for all members of the Bulls' family. The decision to sell the team after 34 years was one that was not made lightly or easily.
We understand the important role that the team has played in the Belleville community and, in particular, the role we have played with local minor hockey associations and the many charitable organizations our Club has provided support to over the years.
To ensure that the Belleville Bulls legacy lives on, we took steps to ensure that the Belleville Bulls brand, trademark and logos are protected and will remain connected to this community. These assets were not included in any sale. Our ownership will hold them in trust, hoping to work with the City managers and community leaders to properly steward their use. This decision ensured that the Belleville Bulls OHL team history remains as part of the city fabric. It also allows the brand name, logo and history to remain as an option should an OHL franchise be in Belleville's future.
We are pleased that the first example of this stewardship will be a renewed agreement with the Belleville Minor Hockey Association (BMHA). The understanding provides the BMHA the opportunity to continue to utilize the Belleville Bulls identity at no cost to them. Practically speaking this means that existing jersey investments are protected and the identity can remain intact as long as the BMHA desires.
All merchandise license agreements remain in place to protect this brand from piracy and distortion, and any residual surplus from licensing and protecting this brand will be contributed into community activities.
