March 5, 2007 - SPHL (SPHL)
Fayetteville Marksmen News Release
[FAYETTEVILLE, N.C.] - The Fayetteville FireAntz of the Southern Professional Hockey League (SPHL) continued their winning ways, defeating the Richmond Renegades and Pee Dee Cyclones on consecutive days, at home, over the weekend. The victories vaulted them into a tie for second in the SPHL, their best ranking of the season.
Friday, March 2nd (vs. Richmond): The FireAntz hosted the Richmond Renegades on Friday looking to extend their winning streak to six games.
Richmond would take the early lead on a goal by Tyler Schremp at 6:47 of the first period. The Renegades would not score again as Chad Collins was spectacular in net, turning aside 25 of 26 shots, en route to first-star of the game. Mike Clarke (3) tied the game, netting a power play goal at 15:14 of the first frame.
Tim Velemirovich (24, 25) continued his push for SPHL Rookie of the Year, extending the lead to 3-1 early in the third period. The only question left was whether Bryan Dobek would continue his goal-scoring streak. It stood at nine consecutive games coming into the contest. Dobek would end the suspense, netting an empty-netter, his 12th of the season, with just 26 seconds remaining. The FireAntz won 4-1.
Saturday, March 3rd (vs. Pee Dee): Once again, the FireAntz looked to continue their winning streak, this time looking for their seventh consecutive victory.
The FireAntz scored early and often, and once again, it would turn into a big offensive night for forwards Rob Sich and Tim Velemirovich. B.J. Stephens (28) began the onslaught just 1:44 into the game. The FireAntz would take a 4-0 lead going into the intermission as Josh Tataryn (19) and Rob Sich (36, 37) scored for the club.
Pee Dee closed to within one goal in the second on three consecutive tallies by Art Mnatsakanov, Kevin Harris and Allan Sirois. Sich (38) capped the scoring in the frame with his natural hat-trick, providing the team a 5-3 edge going into the third.
The third period would be very much like the first as the FireAntz would tack on three more goals by Sich (39), Dylan Row (13) and Bryan Dobek (13). Dobek, once again continued his goal scoring streak (now at 11 games) in the last minute, netting one at 19:38.
Sich had his third 4-goal game in his last five contests and Tim Velemirovich had another five-assist game, tying a club record that he already shared.
