Zebulon, NC --- For the second straight night, Carolina hit a game-ending home run in the last of the ninth to defeat the Mobile BayBears at Five County Stadium.

Monday night, it was Lee Mitchell capping a 10-9 win with a go-homer. Tuesday, it was Grant Psomas hitting a solo homer with one out against AJ Shappi (L, 0-1) as the Mudcats (4-8) won consecutive games for the first time this season.

Kurt Koehler (W, 1-0) earned the victory in relief, entering the game in the eighth inning when Harvey Garcia struggled to begin the frame. Garcia, with a 5-3 lead, failed to retire the first three hitters, allowing one run, then turning the ball over to Koehler, who recorded an out on a force play at second as the tying run scored.

Mobile (4-8) scored twice in the first against starter Daniel Barone, only to see the Mudcats rally to tie by the third. In the first, Psomas singled up the gut to score Jose Campusano from third. Kevin Randel drilled his first home run of the season in the third to even the score 2-2.

The BayBears touched up Barone in the sixth when Jon Zeringue's deep flyball was caught in center by Jai Miller. Josh Ford, who went 4-5 with three doubles, tagged up from second base and was waved all the way home by manager Brett Butler as Mobile went ahead 3-2.

Carolina scored three times in the seventh for a 5-3 lead on a single by Psomas, then a wall-touching single by Randel to score one run, coupled by a wild throw past home to bring Psomas home.

Psomas finished 3-5 with three RBI, with Randel going 2-4 with two RBI. Campusano also had two hits, but left the game with an injury in the fifth.

Gaby Hernandez starts the middle game of the series on Wednesday night at 7:15 PM ET.
