HOOVER, Ala. -- A day after they beat Montgomery 2-1 in 10 innings, the Birmingham Barons trounced the Biscuits, 10-1 in game two. They pounded out 12 hits Tuesday night at Regions Park and limited the Biscuits to just three.

The Biscuits (6-6) walked nine times, but only one of those runners scored, and for the second consecutive evening, they had no hits with men in scoring position.

As has been the case in five of their six losses, the Biscuits held the lead at one time. Josh Arhart walked with the bases loaded in the second inning, one of three walks by Barons starter Gio Gonzalez. But the next three hitters went down meekly without pushing home another run, and Gonzalez found his control for the remainder of his five innings.

Meanwhile, the Barons were busy putting 10 unanswered runs on the board. They plated three (two earned) against Biscuits starter Derek Feldkamp. The big hit was a third-inning two-run double by Thomas Collaro.

The bullpen was no better. Brian Henderson entered in the sixth and allowed three runs in two innings; Jarod Matthews made his first Biscuits appearance since 2004, allowing four runs on three hits, two walks and a hit batsman.

The Barons lead the Southern League with a 10-2 record. Game three of the series is Wednesday morning at 11:05. Biscuits lefty James Houser takes the hill.
