Huntsville, Ala. - The Huntsville Stars scored 10 runs in the first four innings off of Jacksonville Suns starter William Juarez then cruised to a 10-2 Tuesday night victory.
The Jacksonville fell to 6-6 in the loss while Huntsville improved to 5-5 in the victory.
The Stars offense broke through on Suns starter William Juarez in the first inning when Brendan Katin drove home two runs on a two-out single to make it 2-0. Huntsville added another run in the second inning when Hernan Iribarren singled home Mel Stocker to extend the lead to 3-0.
Huntsville's Steve Sollmann hit a two-run homerun with no outs in the third inning to open a 5-0 advantage. The homerun was the Stars' first of the season.
Finally in the fourth inning following a one-out double, two-out walk and two-out hit-by-pitch, Brenden Katin struck with a grand-slam homerun to open a 9-0 score. After Jeff Eure singled, Yohannis Perez tripled him home to make it 10-0.
Jacksonville added single runs in the sixth and seventh innings with RBI from Chin-Lung Hu and Marshall McDougall to end the scoring at 10-2.
The Suns offense had trouble early against Huntsville starter Manny Parra as Jacksonville did not have a baserunner in the first five innings. Parra picked up the win after enduring a nine-day layoff due to bad weather in the previous series.
William Juarez allowed 10 earned runs on 10 hits in four innings, while walking four and hitting a batter. Juarez also struck out three in his first loss of 2007 falling to 2-1.
Suns catcher A.J. Ellis pitched in the eighth inning, his third career pitching appearance, allowing a hit with one strikeout. Anthony Raglani went 2-3 at the plate for Jacksonville, extending his hitting streak to seven games. The loss was Jacksonville's first to Huntsville since June 27, 2005.
The Suns and Stars meet in game three of the series Wednesday at 11:35 a.m. ET. Suns LH Eric Cyr will face Stars LH Adam Pettyjohn. Fans can follow the action live on the internet at 930thefox.com or on a tape delay basis in Jacksonville at 7:00 p.m. on AM 930 The Fox.
