Another Extra Innings Victory

Richmond Roosters News Release


Richmond, Indiana - Richmond won in extra-innings for the second night in a row on Monday. Neither team could take control of the game as both continued to put runs on the board. The Roosters went ahead early but gave up the lead in the latter inning before a run in both the ninth and tenth innings to win the second game of the series.

The Wild Things got out to a quick start when Chris Carter belted a two-run homer in the first, his third of the series, over the wall in right. The Roosters came right back in the bottom of the first by scoring five runs on four hits including a three-run homer by Mike Bidwell. Washington added a run in the second and another in the fourth to cut the lead to 5-4. The Roosters scored three runs over the sixth and seventh innings, but the Wild Things put a four-spot on the board in the seventh to tie things up at 8-8.

Washington got a run in the in the top of the ninth on a one-out RBI single by T.J. Graves, but the Dick Daly, Jr. came through in the bottom half of the inning with a RBI double to the wall in right-center, scoring Mike Bidwell to tie the game. The Roosters continued to punish Washington's bullpen in the 10th inning when Gerald Miller led off with a single to right, then scored on a single to left from Tony Sanguinetti that won the game. Hunter Davis (2-0) picked up the win while Jim Popp (2-4) took the loss for the second straight night.

The Roosters will look to sweep the series against Washington on Tuesday at 6:35 p.m. (Indiana time). Matt Schweitzer (3-5, 3.34 ERA) will get the start for Richmond in an attempt to break the Frontier League record for career wins. Ryan Douglass (7-1, 3.04 ERA) is scheduled to start for Washington.
