Wichita Wingnuts News Release
AMARILLO, TX- The Wichita Wingnuts (41-29) beat the Amarillo Sox (35-36) 10-5 at Amarillo National Bank Sox Stadium on Tuesday night.
Wingunts' starter Josh Lowey carried a perfect game into the bottom of the sixth, and allowed no earned runs in seven innings to become the American Association's first 11-game winner this season.
Wichita scored early and often against Sox' starter Justin Garcia. Ryan Khoury singled to left-center leading off the game and scored on a hit-and-run double down the left field line from Mike Conroy. Conroy advanced to third base on a flyball to right field from John Rodriguez and then scored on Mark Wagner's line drive single to left-center. Greg Porter's groundout to second moved Wagner into scoring position. David Peralta singled through the right side to bring in Wagner with the Wingnuts' third run.
Wichita added three more runs in the top of the third, all after there had been two outs and no one on base. Peralta, Jessie Mier, and Jared McDonald each hit consecutive singles to right field to proudce a run. Wilberto Ortiz followed with a double to left-center that fell in between Adam Buschini and Harrison Kain to score both Mier and McDonald.
In the top of the fifth, Conroy drove in Khoury from second base on a two-out, single through the right side.
Lowey retired the first 15 batters to face him, and struck out a season-high eight batters. Lowey walked two and allowed just three total hits. The 11 wins tie a Wingnuts' single-season record held by Derek Blacksher (2009), Ryan Hinson (2011), and Nick Singleton (2011).
Amarillo scored an unearned run against Lowey in the bottom of the sixth on a throwing error by Khoury on a double play attempt.
Wichita tacked on three more runs in the top of the eighth. Conroy led off with a triple to center field and scored on a pinch hit single to right-center from Blake Bergeron. Peralta and McDonald added RBI singles later in the inning.
Amarillo rallied for four runs in the bottom of the ninth before Edgar Martinez took over for Dillon Wilson and recorded the final three outs.
10 different Wingnuts collected base hits in the win. Conroy and McDonald each had four hits and two RBI. Khoury and Peralta also had multi-hit nights. Nick Walters threw a perfect bottom of the eighth for the Wingnuts.
