Anor's Brace Lifts Crew to Comeback Victory at Home
July 19, 2014 - Major League Soccer (MLS)
Columbus Crew SC News Release
COLUMBUS - The Columbus Crew (5-7-8, 23 points) found a comeback win and defeated the Montreal Impact (3-10-5, 14 points) by a final score of 2-1 in front of a sellout crowd of 21,112 at Crew Stadium on Saturday night. The victory - the Crew's first since May 24 - pushes the club to just a single point behind the New York Red Bulls for the fifth and final MLS Cup Playoff spot in the Eastern Conference.
Montreal took the lead in the first half on a goal by Marco Di Vaio, but a pair of Bernardo Anor tallies would fuel a comeback victory for the Black & Gold. Anor's first goal came in the 56th minute after Tony Tchani played a centering pass to the Crew midfielder. Anor finished from distance with his left foot, leveling the contest at one.
Anor provided the match-winner 19 minutes later. The goal came courtesy of a pass from Aaron Schoenfeld and was struck with the right foot, another missile from well outside the penalty area.
Helping seal the victory was goalkeeper Steve Clark, who made five saves throughout the match, several of the diving variety. The five stops tied Clark's career best.
The Crew plays its third home match in eight days with an international friendly against Barclays Premier League side Crystal Palace FC on Wednesday, July 23 (7:30 p.m. ET / TheCrew.com) before traveling to New England to resume League play against the Revolution on Saturday, July 26 (7:30 p.m. ET / Time Warner Cable SportsChannel).
