KALAMAZOO, Michigan - Housing Resources Inc.'s annual A Walk To End Homelessness kicks off from Homer Stryker Field on March 19 as the Kalamazoo Growlers baseball team hosts the annual fundraiser.

"The word 'home' holds special meaning in baseball and in life. Working with HRI, the Kalamazoo Growlers are proud to help bring individuals and families experiencing homelessness to a home of their own," said John Bollinger, assistant general manager of the Growlers.

The five-kilometer course through downtown Kalamazoo, largely along the Kalamazoo Valley River Trail, remains the same but will start and end at Homer Stryker Field, 251 Mills Street with tours and rest stop available at HRI's Eleanor House Family Shelter. The Growlers will help walkers "Fling into Spring" with family activities before, during and after the walk, including bounce houses, face painting, games and the debut of their new zip line.

"We enjoy a wonderful partnership with the Growlers, who continue to engage in the community in meaningful ways," said Michelle Davis, executive director of HRI. "They bring a new energy to this important fundraising and awareness building event."

The Growlers will draw a winning name from a list of walkers for a gift basket that includes four home game tickets, four Growlers hats, two bobbleheads and much more. Winners must be present.

Also adding to the fun factor is an incentive from retired baseball great Derek Jeter. The Kalamazoo native donated an autographed baseball through the Turn 2 Foundation to encourage more pledges and participants, Davis said. The ball will be given away through a drawing. Every $30 pledge made online earns one chance in the drawing; every $30 you add to your pledge earns one more chance.
