GARY, Ind. - The Gary SouthShore RailCats will hold their annual Open Player Tryout on Thursday, April 28 at U. S. Steel Yard. The tryout is free and registration will begin at 9:30 a.m. for position players and at 11:30 a.m. for all pitchers.

Three players who participated in the Open Tryout have gone on to play with the RailCats including outfielder Mike Coles (2006). Coles, a Hammond native, won two Frontier League Championships with the Windy City Thunderbolts following his time with the RailCats and will likely return for the RailCats home opener on Friday, May 20 as a member of the Fargo-Moorhead RedHawks. Pitchers Dan Soria (2003-04) and Chris Pfalzgraf (2009) also signed with the 'Cats after being discovered at the Open Tryout.

Players interested in attending the Open Tryout must arrive in baseball attire and supply their own wooden bats, gloves and cleats, and catchers must provide their own gear. The RailCats will supply only batting helmets and baseballs.

Upon arriving at U. S. Steel Yard, players should enter through the RailCats Entry Gate on Stadium Plaza - between Fourth and Fifth Avenue - and head to the field for registration. Position player tryouts will be held first at 10 a.m. with pitchers to follow at noon. Registration begins 30 minutes prior to the schedule start time for each group. The RailCats will invite select players back for a second tryout as necessary.
