
Ankiel Belts Walk-Off Homer in Win

Memphis, Tenn. - Rick Ankiel crushed a home run to right field in the bottom of the ninth to lead the Redbirds to a dramatic 6-5 win over Tucson Thursday night at AutoZone Park.
With one out in the bottom of the ninth Ankiel cranked his team-best 12th homer of the year to deliver the win to the âBirds. Edgar Gonzalez had tied the game at 5-5 one inning earlier with a solo home run to left field. Tucson had rallied in the top of the eighth to take a 5-4 lead with a pair of runs off reliever Andy Cavazos.
The Sidewinders jumped to an early lead with three runs in the top of the first before Memphis answered with three runs of their own in the second. Starting pitcher Mike Parisi broke the tie in the fourth with his first career home run. Parisi finished the night 2-for-2.
Brian Falkenborg picked up his first win of the year with 1.2 innings of scoreless relief. Jailen Peguero gave up the home run to Ankiel and took the loss for Tucson.
The Redbirds and Sidewinders will conclude their series tomorrow night in a game scheduled for 7:10 p.m. Anthony Reyes will make his first start for Memphis since being optioned from St. Louis on Sunday. Tucson will send left-hander Evan MacLane to the hill.
