Andreychuk Shines for HarbourCats in Loss

Victoria HabourCats News Release

Nanaimo product Griffin Andreychuk is lighting a fire at the top of the Victoria HarbourCats batting order, and he did that Tuesday night in a tough loss at Sports Traders Diamond.

Andreychuk, a second baseman from Seattle University, scored four runs and reached base five times in a 13-7 setback at the hands of the Bend Elks. Included in that was a home run, his first WCL.

Andreychuk was just part of a highly productive top part of the order. Those batting in the top five spots in the order were a combined 11-21 with all seven runs and RBIs, while the bottom four spots combined to go 0-23.

Andreychuk, Gabe Clark and Alex DeGoti all hit home runs -- to almost the exact spot in left field -- as the HarbourCats actually led this game 7-6 after six innings, scoring runs in five of those first six innings in a game played in front of an announced crowd of 963.

But the HarbourCats gave up six runs in a disaster seventh inning, and another in the eighth, to suffer their sixth-straight loss and fall to 5-9 on the season. As this homestand started, the team was 5-4 and in lock-step with the leaders of the West Division.

After using six different pitchers to survive Tuesday's game, the HarbourCats are now last in the West Division. Logan Lombana had a decent start, going five innings, but Alex Fagalde, Carson Schneider, Ryan Keller and Mark Marinch were touched up in the big late inning. Keller didn't register an out on 11 pitches, four of them strikes, and was tagged with four runs allowed.

The HarbourCats are home Wednesday night hoping to avoid a second straight home sweep. Mikey Wright gets the call on the hill for Luv Salon Gamenight, with haircuts for cancer fundraising. It's also Winning Wednesday with Spinnaker's beer just $5.
