Anderson Leads Thunderbirds to Opening Night Win

Boise, ID - Led by Alan Anderson's 34 points, the New Mexico Thunderbirds (1-0) won their 2010-11 season opener against the Idaho Stampede (0-1) by a score of 114-93.

Anderson hit six 3-pointers in the game and was 12-13 from the free throw line to pace the T-Birds. Thunderbirds second round pick, Anthony Richardson added 18 points and 15 rebounds.

The Thunderbirds used a 15-3 run late in the first quarter to take an early 30-17 lead. Anderson scored seven points during the run and finished the quarter with 12 points including two of his six 3-pointers.

With nine minutes to go in the second quarter, Lance Hurdle hit a three pointer for Idaho that cut the Thunderbirds lead to 36-30. The T-Birds would respond with a 20-6 run, that gave them a 56-36 lead with 2:07 to go in the first half.

Early in the fourth quarter the Stampede closed within 11 points of the T-Birds on a Salim Stoudamire layup. The Thunderbirds answered with a 14-3 run to pull away from the Stampede and give them the opening night win.

In addition to Anderson and Richardson, the Thunderbirds had two other players in double figures, Shane Edwards with 24 points and Dar Tucker with 18 points.

The Thunderbirds will be back in action on Friday Nov. 26 at 7:30 p.m. in their home opener at the Santa Ana Star Center against the Utah Flash.
