Corpus Christi Hooks News Release
CORPUS CHRISTI - Chris Anderson limited Corpus Christi to a run and two hits over seven innings and Paul Hoenecke hit a two-run homer as Tulsa beat the Hooks 2-1 Monday at Whataburger Field before 4,599.
Both clubs are 7-4.
Anderson (3-0), a Jacksonville (Fla.) University first-round selection of the Dodgers two years ago, walked two and fanned four in a 92-pitch performance. He defeated Corpus Christi for the second time in seven days as the Drillers won for the fifth time in six games.
Chris Reed picked up his first save, facing the minimum over the final two innings.
Anderson and Reed were the beneficiaries of three double plays.
Carlos Correa's sixth-inning, two-out solo homer was only the second hit of the evening off Anderson. The first belonged to Tyler White, who dumped a single into left field four frames earlier.
Hooks starter Aaron West was lifted for Travis Ballew after 4 2/3 shutout innings. West struck out five and permitted three hits, but the former Washington Huskie ran his pitch count to 82, 54 of which were strikes.
Ballew retired the first five Drillers he faced before Brian Burgamy doubled with one out in the seventh. One batter later, Hoenecke drilled a 1-0 pitch over the swimming pool in right-center field.
Tony Kemp, customarily the Corpus Christi second baseman, played center field and made a sensational leaping catch to rob Luis Mateo of extra bases in the sixth.
A pair of lefties meet in the series and homestand finale Tuesday. Kent Emanuel (0-0) takes the ball for Corpus Christi at 7:05 vs. Julio Urias (1-0).
