Amy Harrison and Chloe Logarzo Named to Australian Roster for World Cup

May 13, 2019 - National Women's Soccer League (NWSL) - Washington Spirit News Release

Boyds, Md. - Spirit players Amy Harrison and Chloe Logarzo have been named to the Australian Women's National Team as head coach Ante Milicic has announced his final roster that will be heading to France for the 2019 FIFA Women's World Cup.

Harrison made her last appearance for the Matildas at the 2019 Cup of Nations where she helped her country complete a tournament sweep and claim the trophy, outscoring their opponents 9-1 and taking part in all three matches. In the NWSL, Harrison has started in three of the four matches for the Spirit this season. In total, Harrison has appeared for the Matildas in 10 games.

Logarzo has been a long-time staple in the Matildas roster, but an ankle injury sustained in the Australian W-League Grand Final kept the crafty midfielder out of the 2019 Cup of Nations and Australia's most recent friendly against the United States in early April.

Logarzo has since returned to fitness as she made her debut appearance for the Spirit as a substitute against Reign FC on May 4 and earned the start in the Spirit's 3-2 win over Sky Blue FC last Saturday. Logarzo's poise and experience will be valuable to the Matildas over the summer, as she has made 37 appearances for Australia, scoring six goals along the way.

Spirit head coach Richie Burke spoke about Logarzo and Harrison's selection: "I'm thrilled for both Chloe and Amy and pleased that their time at the Spirit has served to help each of them in the selection process." Burke also said that, "Both players have made improvements over the course of the last few months at our club, with increased fitness levels, some tactical growth and certainly higher levels of confidence."

Burke continued on to say: "Can't wait to get them back once the tournament ends and believe that both will return to us as stronger players because of the experience. I wish them both the best of luck, just not against the Lionesses!"

Australia's tournament will begin in the group stages with a fixture against Italy on June 9, followed by games against Brazil on June 13 and Jamaica on June 18, in which the Australians will face Spirit teammate Cheyna Matthews.
