Utah Royals FC News Release
SANDY, Utah - Utah Royals FC have acquired FW Mallory Weber off of the NWSL Waiver Wire, seeing the former Portland Thorns striker join the club for remainder of the 2019 season. Additionally, FW Taylor Lytle has been placed on the Season Ending Injury list after suffering a foot injury days before the club's season opening match against the Washington Spirit.
"Taylor's injury was tough for all of us. She worked very hard through preseason to position herself as a strong competitor for this year and the gaps the World Cup creates in our roster," Utah Royals FC General Manager Stephanie Lee said. "I know she'll continue to work hard through this injury and come back strong - we look forward to that."
Originally selected in the second round of the 2016 NWSL College Draft from Penn State University, Weber was traded to the Thorns prior to the commencement of the 2016 regular season. While with the Thorns, Weber made 44 appearances, scoring one goal. In 2018, Weber made 14 appearances, nine of which were starts while logging 714 minutes. Weber earned her ninth start of 2018 by logging 57 minutes against Sky Blue FC on June 27 after making six consecutive starts to begin the season from March 24-May 5.
Utah Royals FC travels to face the North Carolina Courage on Sunday, May 19 at Sahlen's Stadium. Kickoff from Cary, North Carolina is set for 3:00p MT. URFC returns home on May 25, playing host to the Orlando Pride at Rio Tinto Stadium.
