Ams Regain Series Lead with Game 3 Victory Over Cougars

The Tri-City Americans took a 2-1 series lead as they downed the Cougars 4-2 at the Toyota Center on Tuesday.

Americans Captain Marc Lajoie opened scoring with his first WHL playoff goal 8:00 into the game. The 19-year-old defenseman cleaned up a rebound of a shot from Lukas Dragicevic to give Tri-City an early lead. They have opened scoring in all three games of the series so far.

Tyson Greenway extended the lead to 2-0 off a strange bounce. Alex Serraglio's was tipped off a stick and hit the glass behind Cougars netminder Tyler Brennan. The puck bounced off the glass and landed near the crease where shoveled it into the net. The 19-year-old forward leads the Americans with three goals through three playoff games.

Tri-City led shots 12-7 in the first period.

Chase Wheatcroft put Prince George on the board 3:39 into the middle frame. The Americans went to move the puck across the ice but were incerepted by Wheatcroft who scored off a breakaway to cut the Ams lead in half. Prince George led shots 11-8 through the second period.

Late in the second period, Cougars goaltender Tyler Brennan appeared to be laboring during an Americans power play. He left the game after the next whistle and was replaced in net by Ty Young.

The Cougars tied the game early third period. Hudson Thornton picked up the puck before gaining the Americans and beating Suchanek blocker side.

Four minutes later Parker Bell restored the Americans lead with a power play goal. The Calgary Flames prospected blasted a one-timer over the blocker of Young, putting Tri-City up 3-2.

Chicago Blackhawks prospect Jalen Luypen secured the victory for Tri-City with a late empty net goal.

The Americans will return to the Toyota Center for Game Four tomorrow and Game Five on Friday.
