Amerks Prep For Home Opener; Trim Roster By A Dozen

(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans trimmed their training camp roster today by 12 players in preparation for the team's home and season opener on Saturday, October 3rd.

Rochester opens its 54th season in the American Hockey League against the Lake Erie Monsters at 7:05 p.m. on Saturday at The Blue Cross Arena at the Rochester War Memorial. The first 5,000 fans that night will take home a 2009-10 Amerks magnet schedule, courtesy of M&T Bank.

Fans will have the opportunity to see the return of veteran forward Chris Taylor, in addition to several new faces in forwards Mike York, Jamie Johnson, Graham Mink and defenseman Clay Wilson, to name a few.

The team's final tune-up before the opener is Tuesday, September 29th at Syracuse. Rochester will conclude its 2009 preseason schedule that night in a rematch against the Syracuse Crunch at the War Memorial at Oncenter. The 7:05 p.m. contest will be the second matchup in three nights between the two teams. Rochester (0-2-0) is in search of its first win of the preseason after the Amerks dropped a 4-1 decision to the Crunch in the first leg of the home-and-home series Sunday night at the ESL Sports Centre.

The Amerks also announced that 12 players have been released from training camp. They include forwards Mike Sgroi, Stephane Goulet, Les Reaney, Tom Harrison, Nathan O'Nabigon, Tyrel Lucas, Scott Bartlett, Josh McQuade; defensemen Dwayne Zinger, Ryan Stokes, Travis Gawryletz; and goaltender Daryl Borden. Training camp will officially close after practice on Tuesday, September 29th at ESL Sports Centre. Practice is scheduled for a 10:00 a.m. start.
