
Amerks Host Griffins Tonight at BCA

Game Notes: Tonight, the Rochester Americans return to home ice to host the Grand Rapids Griffins at The Blue Cross Arena in this divisional matchup. The 7:35 p.m. contest can be heard live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks. The contest will also be televised live on Time Warner SportsNet Channel 26. The game is the first in the friendly confines of The Blue Cross Arena since March 2nd.
Promotions: Tonight's game falls on the next installment of the Amerks' Friday Night Frenzies. Fans can enjoy live music from the Ozone Rangers in the main lobby of The Blue Cross Arena up until gametime. As part of the festivities, fans can purchase special packages courtesy of Zweigle's. The package includes four 200 Level End seats, four hot dogs, four sodas and four magazines for $60.00. It may be purchased through the Amerks office at 585-454-5335 or through The Blue Cross Arena Box Office. It's also College Night. Students can show their college ID at the Box Office and receive a $16.00 ticket for $10.00 or a $12.00 for just $8.00. Lastly, it's also Wendy's Night. Buy one, get one free ticket vouchers for the contest are also available at any participating Wendy's Restaurants.
Head-to-Head: This is the fifth of eight scheduled contests between the divisional opponents this season. The Amerks are 2-1-0-1 this season and 14-15-2 all-time against the Detroit Red Wings' affiliate.
Amerks Notes: Rochester (19-38-6-4, 45 points) enters the contest after defeating the Lake Erie Monsters 5-4 in overtime last night at Quicken Loans Arena. The game closed Rochester's season-high five-game road trip. David Brine scored 2:55 into the extra frame to snap Rochester's four-game skid. New additions Tommy Goebel (1+1) and Paul Baier (0+1) made immediate impacts in their Amerks debuts after being signed to Amateur Tryouts earlier in the day. Mark Mancari remains Rochester's top point-getter with 46 points (16+30), while first-year man Marc-Andre Gragnani follows closely behind with 43 points (10+33). His 43 points are fourth among league rookies and his 33 helpers are a team best. Stefan Meyer leads the team with 18 goals.
Player Moves: Amerks General Manager Jody Gage announced today that the team has signed defenseman Luke Beaverson to an Amateur Tryout (ATO). Beaverson joins Rochester after a four-year (2004-2008) collegiate career with the University of Alaska-Anchorage. The 23-year-old Vadnais Heights, Minn., native registered 16 points (7+9) in 138 total games with the Alaska. The 6-foot-5, 227-pound blueliner was the Florida Panthers' ninth-round selection (283rd overall) in the 2004 NHL Entry Draft.
Grand Rapids Notes: The Griffins (27-34-2-5) come into tonight's contest currently riding a three-game losing streak, with the most recent loss coming in a 2-1 decision to the Toronto Marlies last night at Van Andel Arena. Grand Rapids currently resides in fifth place in the American Hockey League's North Division with 61 points. Right Winger Carl Corazzini leads the team with 50 points (21+29) with Mark Cullen in a close second with 47 points (16+31). Goaltender Jimmy Howard has earned a .912 save percentage over 46 games, including two shutouts this season.
Next Game: Rochester makes its return to the Broome County Veterans Memorial Arena for the second straight week the night of Saturday, March 22nd. The Amerks will try to exact vengeance on the Binghamton Senators for their recent overtime loss. The 7:05 p.m. contest is the seventh meeting this season between the two teams and can be heard live on Hot Talk 1280 WHTK, whtk.com and B2 networks. Rochester has not yet collected a win against the B-Sens this season, falling 4-3 in overtime last week. The Amerks are 18-22-4 all-time against the Ottawa Senators' affiliate.
