Rochester Americans News Release
(Rochester, NY)... The Rochester Americans and Knighthawks announced today that the 2009 summer youth hockey and lacrosse camps are now open for registration.
The Amerks Summer Hockey Camp and ELITE Training Camp offers children an experience that no other camp can - the opportunity to meet, interact and learn the game of hockey from current and former Amerks playing in the American Hockey League and National Hockey League. Combining these top-notch instructors with the Amerks' renewed commitment to youth hockey ensures that this will be the best all-around hockey camp experience in Western New York.
Rochester native and Amerks captain Rory Fitzpatrick joins current Amerks assistant coach Jason Cipolla for the Sixth Annual Amerks Summer Hockey Camp and Elite Training Camp. The camps are open to both travel and house players ages 5-15 and will be held at the ESL Sports Centre in July and August.
Last year, current Buffalo Sabres Patrick Kaleta and Nathan Paestch, Nashville Predator and former Amerk captain Scott Nichol and a host of other pro and NCAA college players attended as additional instructors.
AMERKS SUMMER HOCKEY CAMP
ELITE TRAINING CAMP- Travel Players Only
This pro-style training camp is for travel players only and will incorporate NHL, AHL and Division I college drills that will push and challenge top players to their limit. Campers will learn what it takes to be a successful player and be given the guidance and tools to help make their hockey aspirations a reality. Players will be coached in power skating, scoring, defensive play, offensive tactics, checking and high-skill development. Shooting and stickhandling stations, plyometrics and speed training, strength building, team building exercises, nutrition talks and video analysis awaits the players during off-ice sessions.
FULL DAY CAMP-All levels
This is the regular camp that you've come to love for the past decade. Improve your skills and learn some new techniques with three hours of on-ice training per day, video sessions, off-ice activities and other skill development. The players will learn the game through a variety of fun and challenging drills that will apply directly to game situations.
HALF DAY CAMP - All levels
This camp is specifically designed for young players, who wish to improve their skating and develop new skills, while having lots of fun. Campers will be on the ice 1.5 hours on the ice per day with additional off-ice excitement.
KNIGHTHAWKS SUMMER LACROSSE CAMP
Rochester Knighthawks players Joe Walters and Regy Thorpe will join camp directors Bill Warder, former NLL player, and three-time U.S. Women's National Lacrosse Team member Pam Mapstone at the Knighthawks' Boys and Girls Summer Lacrosse Camps.
Warder will direct the Boys' Camp the week of June 29th to July 2nd and Mapstone will be heading the Girls' Camp form August 3rd to August 7th. Both camps will be held at the Barker Road Middle School in Pittsford. The camps are open to players ages 6-15 and campers can take advantage of either full-day or half-day instruction.
The camps will place a heavy focus on skill development through passing, shooting, ball-handling, in addition to conditioning and team building exercises.
