Americans Shutout Utah 4-0, Win the Series in Five Games

April 23, 2017 - ECHL (ECHL) - Allen Americans News Release

Salt Lake City, UT - The Allen Americans and Utah Grizzlies met in a critical game five Saturday night at Maverik Center. Allen headed into the game in the driver's seat, leading the series 3-1 and looked to close out their first round opponent on their own ice.

Allen was determined to get a quick start in the game and did just that, outshooting Utah 15-9 and taking a 2-0 lead to the locker room after the opening frame. Travis Brown notched his first of the postseason early, followed by Joel Chouinard and his second of the playoffs with just four ticks left on the clock.

Neither club found the back of the net in the middle stanza, but the Americans added another pair of markers in the final frame to cement the 4-0 victory. Wade MacLeod and Joel Chouinard netted their third goals of the postseason. Utah was unable to solve Riley Gill who earned the shutout as the Americans eliminated the Grizzlies.

"It was a great win for us tonight," said Riley Gill. "The guys played great in front of me and our offense got the job done. We're looking forward to Round 2."

The Allen Americans return home for the second round of the ECHL Kelly Cup playoffs to take on the Colorado Eagles this Friday night at the Allen Event Center with a scheduled puck drop at 7:05 PM CST. Below are the Americans home dates for Round 2.
