Tri-City Americans News Release
KENNEWICK, WA - Tri-City Americans' Governor/General Manager Bob Tory announced today that the club has selected Darcy Ewanchuk to serve as their new athletic therapist for the upcoming 2010-11 season.
Out of the League for the past two seasons, Ewanchuk is an 11-year veteran of the Western Hockey League. Prior to his hiatus, Ewanchuk spent the 2007-08 season as the Athletic Trainer/Equipment Manger for the new expansion team, the Edmonton Oil Kings. He made his jump into the WHL before the start of the 1996-97 season, spending two seasons with the Edmonton Ice. The club relocated to Kootenay in 1998 and Ewanchuk joined them before the start of the 1999-00 season, eventually winning a WHL Championship with the Ice in 2000 and a Memorial Cup Championship in 2002. From 1994-96, Ewanchuk served as the student athletic trainer for the University of Alberta basketball team, then returned to serve the same position with the Golden Bears' hockey team for the 1998-99 season.
Ewanchuk earned his Bachelor of Arts in Kinesiology degree from Westmont College in Santa Barbara in 1993 before moving on to the University of Alberta, where he completed his Bachelor of Physical Education in Athletic Therapy degree in 1995. He is currently in the process of completing his Masters of Arts in Physical Education at the University of Alberta.
"We made a decision to go to a two-man system, thus ensuring our player's needs are met fully in the areas of therapy, rehabilitation, equipment and skate sharpening," Tory explained. "We are happy to bring Darcy on board."
"He has tremendous experience and I have worked with him in the past with Kootenay. He is a true professional and has been part of the environment of championship teams," continued Tory. "I look forward to (Darcy) joining our staff."
