
Americans Open Weekend at Toyota Center against Thunderbirds

The Americans and Thunderbirds will meet tonight for the third time in their seven-game season series and second time this week.
Tri-City fell 4-2 in their recent matchup to the Thunderbirds on Tuesday. It was Tri-City's fifth straight loss (0-4-0-1). The Ams trailed 3-0 late in the game but made a comeback push as they scored twice - from Ethan Ernst and Adam Mechura - within 2:30. Nick Avakyan had an impressive night in net, turning aside 39 of 42 shots faced from Seattle.
The home team has won each game so far in the season series. Nick Avakyan has played in net for the Ams both games against Seattle. He has a 0.931 save percentage (81/ 87) over those two games. Lucas Ciona has the most head-to-head points in the series with three goals and one assist against Tri-City. Jeremy Hanzel, Ethan Ernst, and Adam Mechura each have two goals head-to-head.
Tri-City is looking to get back in the win column after a five-game losing skid, they are currently tied with the Everett Silvertips for 4th in the Western Conference with 56 points. The Ams have lost their last two at the Toyota Center, but have a history of bouncing back at home. They haven't had more than a two game losing streak at the Toyota Center all season. Tri-City still has the second best power play in the WHL, behind the Kamloops Blazers at 29.6% and the best at home at with 35.9% success at the Toyota Center.
