Lethbridge, AB - In a weeknight Centra Division battle the Calgary Hitmen dropped a 3-0 decision to the Hurricanes in Lethbridge on Wednesday at ENMAX Centre.
The Hitmen outshot the home side 36-26 but 'Canes 20-year-old goaltender Bryan Thomson recorded his second shutout in as many starts.
The Hurricanes scored once in every frame with first and second period power play goals from Anton Astashevich and Logan Wormald before an empty net marker from Cole Shepard with 13.9 seconds remaining.
Special teams proved to be a defining factor with Lethbridge 2-4 on the power play while Calgary went 0-5 with the extra attacker.
The Hitmen are back on the road Saturday, Feb. 18 for a stop in Edmonton against the Oil Kings. Calgary will then open a five-game homestand the next day on Sunday, Feb. 19 against the Memorial Cup host Kamloops Blazers. Game time is 2:00 p.m. at Seven Chiefs Sportsplex.
