Americans Obtain Veteren Defenseman

Kennewick, WA – The Tri-City Americans today have obtained 20-year-old defenseman Andy Thompson from the Vancouver Giants for future considerations. To reach the maximum of three 20-year-old players the club has released 20-year-old defenseman Dan Ehrman. Ehrman had two goals and eight penalty minutes in five games this season.

"I would like to thank (Giants general manager) Scott Bonner for allowing Andy to finish his career where he's comfortable with," said Americans vice president/general manager Bob Tory. "I drafted Andy when I was general manager in Kootenay (first round, seventh overall in 1999) and this is a move that bring us a player who's a solid, experienced defenseman."

The 6' 2", 200 pound Thompson appeared in four games and had two assists and two penalty minutes with the Giants this season before leaving the club to contemplate his hockey future. The native of Delta, B.C. is joining his fourth WHL club (Kootenay, Lethbridge and Vancouver) and has appeared in 268 games and has tallied seven goals, 85 points and has amassed 647 career penalty minutes.

Thompson will make his debut when the Americans host the Prince George Cougars Friday, October 15th on Tri-City Herald Family Night presented by KFFX Fox 11 and Perfection Glass. Saturday, October 16th the archrival Spokane Chiefs make their first of six visits this season to the Coliseum. Every Saturday is Clear Channel Radio Rock the Rink Night presented by McCurley Integrity Dealerships and Tri-Cities Motor Sales at the Pasco Autoplex. Each Saturday during the regular season, three lucky fans get a chance to participate in a puck shoot. The winner each Saturday will qualify for a chance to win a new car on Saturday, March 19th. All youth (3-17) and students (with current valid ASB cards) will be admitted for just $9.

All fans are encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to each Saturday night game during October as McCurley and Tri-Cities Motor Sales hold their annual Octoberfest Food Drive. Food donation barrels will be located at the front of the Coliseum with all donations being given to the Tri-Cities Area Food Banks, Salvation Army, Union Gospel Mission, St. Vincent De Paul and Golden Age Food Source.
