Americans Make Late Comeback, Fall 3-2 in a Shootout to Rockets
December 6, 2018 - Western Hockey League (WHL)
Tri-City Americans News Release
Tri-City and Kelowna last met on Friday when the Rockets took a 3-2 overtime victory in Kennewick. The story was similar tonight at Prospera Place where the Rockets defeated the Ams 3-2 in a shootout. [Tonight's Box Score]
Rookie goaltender Talyn Boyko made his second WHL start tonight. His first start came in the last match-up at Kelowna on October 13 where he earned a 5-4 victory. Before joining the Americans Boyko played for Pursuit of Excellence Hockey Academy, also located in Kelowna.
Kelowna took off with an early lead scoring two goals in the first period. Tri-City was trailing 3-0 when Parker AuCoin scored a power play goal with only four-seconds remaining in the second period. AuCoin's goal came as a deflection off his skate, assisted by Krystof Hrabik and Aaron Hyman.
The Americans proceeded to score two more unanswered goals in the third period. AuCoin once again deflected a shot from Hrabik on the power play. Tri-City's game-tying goal was scored at 17:24 by Aaron Hyman, his sixth goal of the season and first as a Tri-City American.
Boyko stood strong making three saves in overtime bringing the game to a shootout where Kelowna emerged victorious.
Our first loss in a shootout this season, but we'll take the point.
The Americans led shots-on-goal 31-27.
Final score: 3-2 Kelowna (SO) - Our annual Fred Meyer Teddy Bear Toss game is this Saturday. Buy tickets at the Toyota Center Box Office or online.
