Tri-City Americans News Release
Tri-City wrapped up their season series against Everett with a 6-2 victory at the Toyota Center on Wednesday. The Ams finished their head-to-head series with the Silvertips 5-3-1-0.
The win extended Tri-City's lead over the Silvertips in the playoff standings to four points. Currently the Ams are fourth in the Western Conference standings, which would give them home ice advantage in the first round of the 2023 WHL Playoffs.
Adam Mechura opened scoring for Tri-City just 34 seconds into the game. Silvertips netminder Tyler Palmer misplayed the puck behind the net and Mechura picked it up, scoring his 19th goal of the season.
Jalen Luypen scored on the power play at 3:52 as he deflected a shot from Parker Bell to extend Tri-City's lead to 2-0. The Ams added one more goal in the first period as Deagan McMillan scored on an odd man rush set up by Mechura. Palmer was relieved in net by Tim Metzger after letting in three goals on six shots.
Tri-City trailed shots 14-9 after the first period but held their 3-0 lead.
Tri-City continued to build their lead in the second period as Jake Sloan forced a turnover in the neutral zone. Sloan fed the puck to Jordan Gavin in the low slot where he scored Tri-City's fourth goal.
Kyan Grouette put the Silvertips on the board with two minutes remaining in the second frame as he scored off the rush with snapshot from the left circle.
Shots were tied 11-11 in the middle period.
Tri-City extended their lead to 5-1 with a second power play goal from Luypen a minute into the third. The Ams finished the night 2/5 on the power play and was successful on 4/5 penalty kills. Ben Hemmerling netted Everett's lone power play goal of the night, putting the Silvertips back within four goals. The Ams netted the final goal of the night halfway through the last period as Mechura scored on a shorthanded breakaway. It was Mechura's second shorthanded goal of the season and sixth of the Americans.
