Americans Defeat T-Birds In Overtime

Kennewick,January 13, 2010 - The Tri-City Americans defeated the Seattle Thunderbirds 2-1 in overtime Wednesday night at the Toyota Center in Kennewick.

These two teams will meet on Friday at the Toyota Center at 7:05 p.m. for a second game in three days.

Tri-City (32-11-0-1) outshot Seattle 6-4 in a scoreless first period.

The Americans led in shots 17-13 after 40 minutes by outshooting the T-Birds 11-9 in the second period.

Seattle (14-23-3-4) took a 1-0 lead at 15:21 of the third period on a goal by Chance Lund after a video replay review showed Lund's shot had crossed the goal line. Off a scramble in front of the Americans net, Lund lifted the puck towards the Tri-City goal. Tri-City goalie Drew Owsley knocked the puck out of the air, after it had crossed the line, and the puck went into the right circle. Play continued until the next whistle and then the referee conferred with the video goal judge. After a delay of a few minutes, the referee indicated a goal had been scored. Brenden Dilon was credited with the only assist on the goal.

Brendan Shinnimin scored a power-play goal at 18:27 of the third to tie the game 1-1. Kruise Reddick had the only assist on the goal.

After three periods the Americans led in shots, 29-23, by outshooting the T-Birds 12-11 in the third period.

Brooks Macek score at 4:17 of the overtime to give the Americans the win. Shinnimin and Tyler Schmidt had the assists on the goal.

Tri-City outshot Seattle 32-25 in the game.

Seattle goalie Calvin Pickard made 30 saves on 32 shots and his record is now 12-19-3-4.

Owsley stopped 24 of 25 shots and his record is now 28-9-0-0.

The T-Birds are back home on Saturday, January 16, to face the Kamloops Blazers at 7:05 p.m. at ShoWare Center.
