Wichita, Kansas - The Allen Americans, ECHL affiliate of the San Jose Sharks, dropped a 2-1 decision to the Wichita Thunder on Tuesday night at Intrust Bank Arena.
A scoreless opening period tested both goalies. Jake Paterson faced more quality scoring chances in that opening period, denying Wichita on all ten shots he faced. Neither team was called for a penalty in a fast-moving twenty minutes. Wichita outshot Allen10 to 9.
Wichita scored twice in the second frame. The two goals were scored less than five minutes apart. First, Chad Butcher ripped a blast from the slot for his 10th goal of the season from Ralph Cuddemi and Travis Brown. Wichita extended their lead to 2-0 at the 9:14 mark, when Ralph Cuddemi fired one home from the right faceoff circle for his 31st of the season. The Americans outshot Wichita 17 to 7 in the second period, but were unable to solve Shane Starrett. Both teams were 0 for 1 on the power play.
Zach Pochiro put Allen on the board in the third period but the Americans were unable to even the score. With the victory, Wichita and Allen are tied with 76 points in the division with both clubs having two games remaining. Allen will host Idaho on Friday and Saturday night.
