Thunder Closes Home Schedule with Win vs. Allen

Wichita, KS - Wichita scored twice in the second period and held off a late charge from Allen to snag a 2-1 win on Tuesday night at INTRUST Bank Arena.

With the victory, the Thunder moves into a third-place tie with the Americans in the Mountain Division playoff race.

Chad Butcher and Ralph Cuddemi each had two points and Shane Starrett won his 17th game of the season.

After a scoreless first, Butcher got the Thunder on the board first just four minutes into the second. He got to a loose puck near the right circle and beat Jake Paterson to make it 1-0. Five minutes later, Cuddemi made it 2-0 as he caught a pass from Butcher at the right face-off dot and wristed one past Paterson.

In the third, Zach Pochiro cut the lead to one with his 18th of the season. He fired a slap shot near the goal line at 12:43 to help Allen get back in the game. Allen outshot the Thunder 12-7 in the final frame, but Starrett held off the late charge from the Americans and Wichita won, 2-1.

The Thunder evened up the season-series at six wins a-piece. Butcher netted his 10th of the year and added an assist. Cuddemi potted his 31st of the season and also had a helper. Starrett stopped 37 of 38 to preserve the win for the Thunder.

Wichita went 0-for-2 on the power play. Allen was 0-for-2 on the man advantage.

The Thunder closes the season with a pair of games in Colorado against the Eagles starting Friday at 8:05 p.m. CST.
