Tri-City Americans News Release
An explosive second period pushed the Americans to a 5-2 victory over the Vancouver Giants tonight at the Langley Events Centre. Lukas Dragicevic, a Richmond, B.C. native, led the Americans in his homecoming game with three assists, a season-high for the Seattle Kraken prospect.
After a scoreless first period, Jake Sloan put the Ams on the board just 21 seconds into the middle frame. Vancouver defenseman Wyatt Wilson turned over the puck at the bottom of the left circle and Sloan capitalized on the opportunity with a quick shot to the top left of the net. Tri-City's offense caught traction with a flurry of second period goals.
Just over a minute after Sloan's goal, Deagan McMillan scored short-side on goaltender Matthew Hutchison with a quick wrist shot from the slot. The goal ended a seven-game scoreless period for the 2005-born forward. McMillan is tied with Sloan for the second most goals on the team with eight.
The goals kept coming as Drew Freer scored two minutes later, making it a 3-0 game. Giants netminder Hutchison was relieved in net by Brett Mirwald after Tri-City's third goal.
The Americans added one more second period goal at 12:26 as Cash Koch scored from the slot off a highlight-reel feed from Lukas Dragicevic. It was Koch's first goal of the season and second in the WHL.
Tri-City held a 4-0 lead heading into the final period. The Giants finally found the scoresheet as Logen Hammett scored a shorthanded goal to spoil Kyle Kelsey's shutout bid. Tri-City scored their final goal of the night on the same power play as Parker Bell fired a one-timer from the top of the circle over the blocker of Mirwald.
The Giants scored once more with a goal from Justin Ivanusec for a final score of 5-2.
Kyle Kelsey turned aside 25 of 27 shots faced.
The Americans will return to the Toyota Center on Tuesday to take on the Saskatoon Blades.
