Allentown Ambassadors News Release

The New Jersey Jackals jumped out to a 6-0 lead after four innings and held on to win the game 6-3 over the Allentown Ambassadors Tuesday night in New Jersey.

The Jackals scored two in the first off Ambassador starter Chris Zallie. Darren Blakely led off with a single, then Joe Kerrigan hit into a fielder's choice that could have been a double play, but shortstop Jorge Diaz had a little trouble getting the ball out of his glove and the Ambassadors only got Blakely at second. Travis Bailey then singled to right and Mike Glendenning followed with a single to drive in Kerrigan. After Bailey stole third, Carlos Pagan hit a sacrifice fly to left to score Bailey.

The Jackals added another in the bottom of the second, and then three more in the fourth. Keith Maxwell led off the fourth with a single, then Craig Conway doubled. With runners on second and third, Blakely doubled, scoring both Maxwell and Conway. Then Kerrigan walked. After Bailey flied out to deep center field, with Blakely advancing to third, Zallie left the game. Orlando Encarnacion came in and struck out Glendenning, but threw a wild pitch in the process, allowing Blakely to score. Pagan then grounded out to end the inning.

Chris Clark was cruising along for the Jackals, at one point retiring twelve in a row, but ran into trouble in the sixth. Jorge Diaz led off with a single, and then stole second. Ender Gonzalez walked and then Marlon Roche popped out. Vic Davilla singled to drive home Diaz and end Clark's night. Trevor Marcotte came in and gave up a single to Brian Macchi to load the bases. He then walked Greg Schmidt on four pitches to force home a run. Schuyler Doakes had an RBI ground out and then Julio Acosta flied out to end the inning.

The Jackals bullpen shutdown the Ambassadors the rest of the way. Clark picked up his first win of the season, while Zallie took his third loss. Ben Grezlovski picked up his first save. Vic Davilla was 2-4 with a run scored and an RBI for the Ambassadors, while Craig Conway was 3-4 with a double and a run scored for the Jackals. The Ambassador bullpen did not allow a run in four and two thirds innings pitched, with Encarnacion, Carlos Gomez, Wade Clark, and John Boker combining to shut down the Jackals. The loss puts the Ambassadors three games under .500, they are now 12-15 this season. The Jackals are 19-12 and five games ahead of Allentown in the standings. The two teams play again tomorrow night at 7:05.
