Midland RockHounds News Release

Amarillo won a "double-header" of sorts Tuesday, taking the completion of Monday night's suspended game, 3-2 (in 11 innings), before defeating the RockHounds, 5-4, in the regularly scheduled Texas League contest.

The Sod Poodles won a back-and-forth victory in the "nightcap," erasing a 4-3 deficit in the sixth inning. Luis Torrens led off with a single against starter Kyle Friedrichs before the right-hander came back to strike out Hudson Potts. Tyler Alexander relieved Friedrichs and surrendered an opposite-field RBI double to Taylor Kohlwey, who took an 0-2 pitch into the left field corner. After Alexander struck out Kyle Overstreet, Peter Van Gansen singled to center, bringing Kohlwey home with the go-ahead (and eventual game-winning) run.

In the completion of the game suspended (in the middle of the sixth inning) Monday night, Edward Oliveras took over the Texas League lead in RBI with his 71st ... and it was a walk-off game-winner. Oliveras sent a flair single to right field in the 11th inning, scoring designated runner Ivan Castillo, as the Sod Poodles claimed a 3-2 win in 11 innings. Before he scored the game-wining run, Castillo saved the game for Amarillo with his glove. With two on and two out in the top of the ninth, Castillo made a tremendous, over-the-shoulder catch on Collin Theroux's flair to shallow left field. The catch ended the inning and saved at least one run.

In the 3-2 loss in the opener, RockHounds pitching did not allow an earned run over 11 innings to the Texas League's top offense. Matt Milburn 's two runs in the fifth were aided by a throwing error and the game-winning was scored by the extra-innings designated runner (that runner starts the inning in scoring position and, if he scores, that run cannot be earned. Seth Martinez tossed three scoreless innings when the game resumed Tuesday and Zack Erwin went two innings "plus" before the flair single from Edward Oliveras ended the game.
